Teeth Whitening (Bleaching)
Whitening is the process of lightening discolorations that cannot be removed by dental cleaning, stemming from the natural structure of the teeth.
In patients who have ideal tooth shape, structure, and harmony with the lips but experience aesthetic issues due to darker color, desired aesthetic results can be achieved quickly with a whitening procedure.
When professionally performed by a dentist, whitening is a harmless procedure for the teeth. Currently, there are two types of whitening procedures applied. One is home bleaching, where the individual applies it themselves for several nights. The other is in-office bleaching, conducted within the clinic.
In-Office Whitening
This is a whitening procedure performed in a clinical setting under the supervision of a dentist. Depending on the patient, it can be repeated in 2 or 3 sessions.
Home Whitening
After taking upper and lower measurements from the patient, special transparent trays are prepared to cover all the teeth specifically for the individual. The patient applies the whitening gel provided by the dentist into these trays and uses them daily for a duration determined by the dentist.
The best results are achieved when both methods are combined. Temporary sensitivity can be experienced in both types of whitening procedures, depending on the individual.
After teeth whitening, veneers and composite restorations should be performed 1 week to 15 days after to ensure both better color matching and stronger bonding of the composite to the tooth.
